Celebrating Christmas through sustainable means

30 Nov Celebrating Christmas through sustainable means

To celebrate the holiday season, the Enderun community held the “Enderun SustainabiliTREE” lighting ceremony at the college’s courtyard. Students, faculty, board members and special guests attended the event.

Among the special guests were Carousel Productions, Inc.’s reigning Miss Philippines-Earth, Loren Mar Artajos, Miss Philippines-Fire, Shannon Bridgman, Miss Philippines- Eco Tourism, Melanie Mader, and Miss Philippines-Earth 2015, Angelia Ong.

“Enderun SustainabiliTREE” is a Christmas tree lighting event initiated by the Sustainability Department of Enderun Colleges. This year’s display stands at 22 feet, made of new and used bamboo poles, recycled from last year’s Christmas tree.

The event remained faithful to Enderun Colleges’ stance on sustainability. Enderun Colleges’ director for sustainability, Macky Maceda said, “Our sustainable Christmas tree shines its lights on the global call for climate action; moving forward, we will continue to promote renewable energy, materials recycling and sustainability education.”

The “SustainabiliTREE” is decorated with LED holiday lights that are powered by solar and kinetic generators connected to bamboo bicycles, which were ridden by Enderun athletes and representatives from different school organizations. Guests were also encouraged to ride the kinetic bamboo bikes from Bambike Revolution Cycles.

The Enderun community contributed to the event by creating ornaments from upcycled materials from this year’s paper drive, also initiated by the Sustainability Department. The night was capped off by Tuloy Foundation Choir’s performance of Christmas classics while everyone enjoyed the hors d’oeuvres and Oxford Landing wine served. Oxford Landing is a South Australian winery that implements “Vine to Dine” supply chain practices promoting environmental biodynamic sustainability. These vegan friendly wines are exclusively imported and distributed by Philippine Wine Merchants.

The “Enderun SustainabiliTREE” event was made possible by ERA Solar (Buskowitz Group of Companies), Pivot Edutainment, Bambike Revolution Cycles, and Philippine Wine Merchants.
